We are thrilled to announce a new initiative “Happy Healthy Heroes” aimed at supporting families in our community by providing free meals for children during school holidays in 2024, starting this Easter. In collaboration with Cwtsh Wellbeing Network, we are committed to alleviating food insecurity and ensuring that every child has access to nutritious meals, particularly in areas of high deprivation.
Through this innovative partnership, for every full paying adult meal purchased, we will provide a free meal for a child. This initiative not only addresses the immediate need for food assistance but also fosters community support and solidarity.
In a joint effort with our esteemed funding partners, Cwtsh, and working with Caerphilly County Borough Council, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s Dietetics and Public Health teams, GAVO and Caerphilly Cares, we are excited to kickstart this initiative that addresses a critical need within our community.
“We are excited to launch this initiative in partnership with Cwtsh at our profit-for-purpose coffee shop in Risca – Snug Coffee Shop,” said Dawn Derraven, Co-Founder of Community Volunteers Wales. “We’ve put together a healthy and varied menu for the free meals, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
Tara Holloway-Scott, Co-Founder of Community Volunteers Wales, added, “This initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration. We are grateful for the support of our partners. By working together, we can make a meaningful impact on the lives of families in our community, ensuring that children have access to healthy meals during the school holidays.”
Run by Community Volunteers Wales, and partly staffed by volunteers, Snug Coffee Shop is a profit-for-purpose coffee shop, meaning all profits get reinvested into the community through a variety of initiatives.
Located at 60 Tredegar Street, Risca, we are open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 2pm. To further enhance accessibility, we will be open on the Easter bank holidays, providing families with additional opportunities to benefit from this initiative.
Keep up to date via our social media: Snug Coffee Shop on Facebook and @snug_coffeeshop on Instagram.
We encourage members of the community to join in and make the most of this support during the school holidays.
