For those of you who have supported us from the beginning, you’ll know how much it means to us to finally secure a permanent base to house our many community initiatives. Since day one, we have been committed to preserving spaces that hold real value for our neighbourhoods, making sure these locations remain accessible for everyone who relies on the services and programs we offer. Today, we’re thrilled to announce our new home in Risca: The Sycamore Centre located at the St. David’s Methodist Church in Ty Sign.

After some minor renovations, we will be officially opening our doors on Monday, December 2nd. This center represents a significant step in our journey, providing a welcoming hub where our community can connect, grow, and thrive.

Why “The Sycamore Centre”?

The name “Sycamore” symbolises resilience, community, and longevity. Just as the roots of a Sycamore tree interconnect to support each other, The Sycamore Centre will be a stronghold of community support, encouraging individuals and groups to come together and grow. We envision this center as a foundation upon which the community can lean—whether it’s for support, learning opportunities, social gatherings, or simply a place to enjoy a warm cup of coffee among friends.

What we’re offering at Sycamore Centre

It’s no surprise that we have BIG plans for the centre. However we will be opening with:

• The Community Classroom – This is a brand new idea aimed at growing skills within the community. Are you a teacher looking for a venue to host a language or key skills class? Do you know sign language, lead self-esteem workshops, or have a special craft you’d like to teach? The Community Classroom is a versatile space designed to support instructors and learners alike, offering a perfect venue to share knowledge and inspire others.
• Venue Hire – We have a beautiful space available for hire, perfect for exercise classes, children’s clubs, and parties. If you’re interested in a welcoming venue for your activities, don’t hesitate to message us today to learn more about booking options.
• Snug Coffee Shop – Our beloved Profit-for-Purpose coffee shop will be expanding to this new location, bringing the same welcoming vibes but at a brand-new venue. Relax in our cozy little oasis atop the hill and enjoy the warm atmosphere, just as you do at our Tredegar Street location.

Introducing The Snug, Sycamore Centre

The Sycamore Centre will serve as a vibrant space for multiple activities, offering something for everyone. We’re especially excited to announce the opening of our second Snug Coffee Shop location right here in the center. This extension of our beloved Tredegar Street café will bring the same welcoming atmosphere, delicious drinks, and cozy vibes, with a few delightful additions tailored to the new space.

1. Child-Friendly Area
   With the additional space at The Sycamore Centre, we’re introducing a dedicated child-friendly area, complete with toys and games. We know how important it is for parents to have a comfortable, safe environment where they can enjoy a coffee while their little ones play. This area is designed to offer parents a much-needed break and a chance to connect with friends, share stories, and build a support network with other parents.
2. Exclusive Snug Blend Coffee
   We’re proud to introduce a new signature Snug Blend, crafted in partnership with Big Dog Coffee. This Welsh-based roastery shares our values of community and quality, and their ethos resonates deeply with our mission at Community Volunteers Wales. The new blend is not only unique to The Sycamore Centre but is also a tribute to our shared commitment to supporting local businesses with a big heart for the community.

The Pantri Stays Put

For our regulars at The Pantri on Tredegar Street—don’t worry! The Pantri will continue operating as usual, serving those in need with affordable essentials. This means we will now have three locations across Risca working together to meet our community’s needs: The Pantri, our original Snug Coffee Shop, and The Sycamore Centre.

We’re thrilled to open The Sycamore Centre for venue hire as well! If you’re looking for a place to host community meetings, small gatherings, or workshops, we invite you to check our availability. This space was created for the community, so we’re excited to see it serve as a location for local events and memorable moments.

Where to Find Us

The Sycamore Centre is conveniently located at the top of Thistle Way, right across from Elm Drive shops and the Spar fields. It’s easily accessible and offers plenty of space for everyone to gather.
