Building a Kinder, Stronger South Wales
Since its founding in 2020, Community Volunteers Wales (CVW) has been a beacon of hope, connection, and resilience across South Wales. Born during the uncertainty of the pandemic, CVW has grown into a vibrant network of people and projects dedicated to building stronger, kinder communities — together.
In this blog, we would like to take the opportunity to reintroduced ourselves and our core values, offering a powerful reminder of what community truly means. Here’s a look at the heart of CVW, through the lens of our four core values; We Share, We Connect, We Grow, and We Nurture.
🌟 We Share: A Hand Up, Not Just a Handout

At CVW, sharing is about dignity, sustainability, and solidarity. Through the We Share initiative, surplus and pre-loved items are redistributed to those in need — not as charity, but as community support.
Key projects include:
- Tiny Treasures Baby Bank – Providing low-cost baby essentials and crisis packages.
- The Pantri – An award-winning food project supporting over 600 families.
- Pet Food Bank – Free pet food every Wednesday at the Sycamore Centre.
- Tin on a Wall – A grassroots donation drive now expanding to Hengoed.
- Uniform Scheme – Reducing waste and supporting families with school uniforms.
- Community Bike Scheme – Giving bikes a second life and promoting active living.
🤝 We Connect: Building Friendships That Last

Connection is the foundation of community. CVW’s We Connect programs are designed to bring people together, foster friendships, and create safe, welcoming spaces for all.
Highlights include:
- Snug Coffee Shops – Two cosy cafés where everyone is welcome.
- Chatty Café & Coffee Mornings – Weekly gatherings for conversation and companionship.
- Youth Clubs – Safe, fun spaces for young people to learn and grow.
- Sycamore Centre – A vibrant hub for events, classes, and celebrations.
🌱 We Grow: Empowering People and the Planet

Growth is more than expansion — it’s about empowerment. Through We Grow, CVW supports the circular economy and helps individuals reach their full potential.
Initiatives include:
- Sensory Gardens – Creating inclusive, calming spaces for ALN community members.
- Urban Green Spaces – Transforming land into thriving gardens and food sources.
- The Studio – A new learning space for community education and development.
- Apprenticeships – Providing real-world experience and career pathways for young people.
💙 We Nurture: Combating Loneliness with Compassion

Loneliness is one of the greatest threats to well-being — and CVW is tackling it head-on through We Nurture. From emotional support to practical help, this value is a promise to care.
Programs include:
- Kindness Calls – Weekly check-ins during lockdown, offering a lifeline of connection.
- Transport to Health – Helping people access vital healthcare appointments.
- Community Rides – Expanding access to social events and shopping trips.
- Employment Support & Job Centre Hub – Empowering people with job access and training.
- Craft & Cookery with Multiply – Building life skills and friendships.
