Welcome to The Studio: A New Space for Learning, Creativity & Community in Ty Sign
We are delighted to announce the launch of The Studio, a new learning centre within The Sycamore Centre in Ty Sign. This space has been created to inspire creativity, support lifelong learning, and bring people together through shared experiences.

A Message from Our Founders
The studio has been a vision for our CVW founders since we acquirred the Sycamore Centre, almost a year ago. Tara Holloway Scott and Dawn Derraven saw that there was an opportunity for a community classroom at the centre.
“Learning is a life-long experience and having somewhere in the community that encourages this is vital for creating robust community”

βWeβre thrilled to introduce The Studio β a wonderful new space in Ty Sign, designed to optimise creativity and a commitment to lifelong learning.
We believe that gaining new skills and investing in personal development can unlock opportunities, build confidence, and open doors to experiences that enrich lives.β
“We look forward to welcoming teachers, lecturers and crafters to The Studio in Ty Sign over the coming months. This is a fantastic opportunity for the new year and empowering people in the community to develop and perfect new skills.”
Why Lifelong Learning Matters
At Community Volunteers Wales, we believe that learning is not confined to classrooms or limited by age. Lifelong learning is a powerful tool for personal growth, mental wellbeing, and community connection. It helps individuals stay curious, adapt to change, and discover new passions.
According to the Centre of Excellence, lifelong learning offers a wide range of benefits:
- It keeps the brain active and healthy
- It improves mental wellbeing and reduces stress
- It opens up new career paths and opportunities
- It builds cultural awareness and social bonds
- It encourages creativity and problem-solving
You can read more about these benefits in this article:

What You Can Expect at The Studio
The Studio will host a diverse programme of classes and workshops designed to be accessible, engaging, and community-led. These will include:
- Language learning (such as Spanish, Welsh, French, and British Sign Language)
- Art and craft sessions (including watercolour painting, life drawing, and printmaking)
- Creative writing and personal development
- Skills-based courses led by local experts and volunteers
We are actively seeking language teachers, artists, and crafters who are interested in sharing their skills with the community. If you would like to run a class or workshop, we would love to hear from you.
A Special Thank you
We want to take a moment to thank Orangebox who kindly donated some beautifully crafted office furniture for The Studio.

Tara explains “We wanted to create an environment that shows students that this is a serious space for learning. Orangebox have helped us create a beautiful breakout area for The Studio. Thanks to their generous donation we’ve been able to create a space that is tranquil and inspiring.”
A Space for Everyone
The Studio is more than just a learning centre. It is a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to explore new ideas, develop skills, and connect with others. All profits from activities at The Studio go directly back into supporting local initiatives, making it a truly community-driven space.
Whether you are looking to learn something new, teach a skill, or simply be part of something positive, The Studio is here for you.
Located at The Sycamore Centre in Ty Sign, The Studio will be launching soon with a full timetable of events and opportunities. We look forward to welcoming you.
